Together, United Way and Community Partners are disrupting the cycle of poverty through focused attention on Education.

 

Recent research from United Way Worldwide, emphasizes 4 critical milestones to focus on in a young person’s life. Early learning and kindergarten readiness, reading proficiency by 4th grade, transition to junior high and high school graduation with the opportunity for post-secondary education and employment.

2010-11 Education Outcomes:  9185

  • Total # of low-income children achieve developmental milestones:  776
  • Total # of low-income children enter kindergarten testing at or above grade level:  73
  • Total # of low-income parents engage in more language and literacy-promoting behaviors with their children:  551
  • Total # of low-income youth develops nurturing relationships with adults:  2,717
  • Total # of low-income youth develop positive character values:  2,450
  • Total # of low-income youth develop positive relationship skills:  1,230
  • Total # of low-income youth improve academic performance:  955
  • Total # of low-income youth increase their physical activity:  433
