Financial Independence

Together, United Way and the community partners you see here are disrupting the cycle of poverty through focused attention on Financial Independence.

With an estimated 46,299 people living in poverty in Ada County and another 34,384 people living in poverty in Canyon County, we have over 80,000 people living in poverty in the Treasure Valley.  Poverty rates vary greatly when we compare variables such as location and age and a large percentage of those living in poverty are children under the age of 18.

Thanks to the thousands of individuals who donate to the Community Fund.  You helped:
  • 243 low-income individuals acquire the basic skills necessary for getting and retaining jobs, many while overcoming homelessness and language barriers
  • 27,764 low-income adults and children experience increased access to nutritious food
  • 2,818 low-income individuals increase or maintain their independence and financial stability
  • 1,767 low-income individuals and families preserve their safety and security by escaping an abusive situation or homelessness
  • 624 low-income residents move out of homelessness into safe, affordable housing and returned to self-sufficiency
