United Way of Treasure Valley has completed phase one of a project to inform the community about our current education attainment. Idaho’s college-going rate is reportedly 49th nationally and we are the last state to implement a “unique student ID system”. The Treasure Valley Education Partnership (TVEP) report provides a baseline for drop-out, graduation and college going rates in our community.
TVEP’s work focused on the 11 school districts and communities in the Treasure Valley (the United Way service territory) including Boise, Caldwell, Kuna, Melba, Meridian, Middleton, Notus, Nampa, Parma, Wilder, and Vallivue.
Treasure Valley Dropout Rate:
- After taking into consideration the number of students who do not graduate, nor are counted as dropouts in current statistics, the actual Treasure Valley dropout rate would be 22%, or nearly 1 in 4 students.
- Of the students who drop out, 32% are minority, or one in three, is more than twice their prevalence in the student population. 90% of these students are Latino.
Treasure Valley College-going Rate:
- The college-going rate for Treasure Valley students in the class of 2009 was determined to be 46% (with a range of 23% - 58%).
United Way is committed to mobilizing different segments of the community including business, foundations, individuals and non-profit organizations vested in education to make a positive impact on the education attainment of our youth.
