HEALTH

Together, United Way and the community partners you see here are disrupting the cycle of poverty through focused attention on Health.

With over 62,425 people living in poverty in the Treasure Valley, we know that many people must choose between visiting a doctor and buying groceries or paying rent.  Our partners are focusing on creating medical homes for patients and seeking new ways to be more effective in medical, dental and counseling services.

According to Eagle Mayor Phil Bandy in 2009, “More than 17,000 people in the valley struggle with at least one chemical addiction.  Private medical providers currently turn away 335 people a month who voluntarily seek treatment due to lack of resources”.

United Way of Treasure Valley made providing these services to those in our community needing them a priority and has been instrumental in securing funding through State and federal grants, as well as federal funds through Idaho’s Congressional Delegation for Allumbaugh House.

Thanks to the thousands of individuals who donate to the Community Fund.  You helped:
  • 176 low-income individuals receive substance abuse treatment services
  • 1,229 low-income individuals show improvement in dental or medical health
  • 673 low-income individuals have access to counseling services and show improvement in their mental health and well being
