The Region IV Substance Abuse and Mental Health Crisis Center will be located in Boise and will effectively unify sobering, detox, and crisis mental health services into an integrative healing facility that will be a single point of access for non-incarcerated persons in psychiatric or medically compromised conditions due to mental health or substance abuse crises. Boise Mayor Dave Bieter announced at United Way’s 2008 Annual Meeting that the $2.7 million in construction funds and $1.8 million in operational funding has been secured for the Center. Hummel Architects have been retained and are in the process of designing the building. Groundbreaking for the facility has occured and the center will be operational in March, 2010.

We believe this is a first step in a continuum of care desperately needed to help people become productive members of our community. As a first step, however, additional programs and services need to be developed in order to ensure the successful integration of people leaving the Center back into society.

A Continuum of Care includes ongoing discussions about treatment and service needs, strategic planning about delivery of services, and partnership development for program implementation. United Way has been instrumental in the Center’s development, and will continue to focus on the issue of substance abuse and mental health crises in our community by convening key partners – such as the Boise Rescue Mission, Terry Reilly Health Services, Boise State University, City of Boise, Ada County, Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, St. Luke’s, Boise City/Ada County Housing Authority, and others – to achieve community impact through a network of treatment and housing programs for low-income clients after detoxification services.
