We Love our Loyal Contributors!
|
|
Loyal Contributors are people who have been donating to United Way for 10 years or more, and we are lucky enough to count 1,630+ of these community champions in our corner. This summer, we're recognizing their longtime support with a special tribute community garden.
Loyal Contributors have provided the foundation of United Way for decades and are often our community's unsung heroes. We celebrate their achievements and congratulate every one of them for serving as a role model for future generations of United Way Loyal Contributors.
United Way's Loyal Contributor Community Garden is a living expression of community. It stands as a symbol of the quiet work that happens every day by every day individuals who want to make a difference.
The host of our garden this season is A Seed Planted. A Seed Planted started when my Brandon and Katherine Stankewsky wanted to eat healthy but could not afford the organic/natural prices. They started to grow their own produce and wanted to sell the rest for extra income. That was until they realized that if they cannot afford this food how can people less fortunate afford it? As a result A Seed Planted was born. The life philosophy of A Seed Planted is to give in every aspect and not to take in abundance. They believe everyone's philosophies in life are different but if we can focus them on helping others we can change this world.
A section of the A Seed Planted's garden is dedicated to the Loyal Contributor garden. We have planted pumpkins which once grown will be donated to the WCA at Halloween for Jack O' Lantern season.
We would like to thank A Seed Planted for hosting the garden and Create Common Good for donating pumpkin seeds. And a big, big thanks to our 1,630 + Loyal Contributors for your tremendous support!

Hewlett Packard: A Creative Corporate Partner

HP may be the largest technology company in the world, but it's the generous employees right here in Boise who set their standard across the globe for earning corporate matching gift funds. As United Way of Treasure Valley's largest corporate partner, HP's employee and corporate contributions topped $660,000 last year alone. But there's more to the partnership than the traditional campaign: HP's strong commitment to making a positive difference in the world through their people, products, service, expertise and partnerships has led to creative new collaborative opportunities with United Way and other local non-profits that have far-reaching impact on our community. Here are a few examples:
PRODUCT DONATIONS
Last year, HP donated more than $150,000 in products through their employee giving program, benefiting more than 60 local non-profit organizations, including the donation of a laptop for the Domestic Violence Collaborative, a specialized financial education program for victims of domestic violence that was successfully implemented in 2010.
PRINTING SERVICES
This is the 2nd year that HP has donated printing services for over 35,000 United Way pledge forms, saving United Way hundreds of dollars in printing costs.
COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERISM
HP's community-minded employees work closely with the United Way's local Corporate Volunteer Program; last year, United Way facilitated more than 900 volunteer hours for their team, coordinating projects of varying size and scope at non-profit agencies throughout the Treasure Valley.
As United Way's strategic evolution to year-round Community Impact enters its final stages, we look forward to the new and creative ways for collaborating with our corporate partners to achieve our Vision: An engaged and mobilized community where individuals and families have opportunities to succeed. Thank you to HP and our other phenomenal corporate partners for supporting our vision for the community!

How Corporate Volunteerism Can Strengthen You Bottom Line
|
New research from a national study by Deloitte suggests a powerful link between volunteerism and several drivers of employee perceptions of positive corporate culture, especially amongst millennials. At a time when one-third of millennial employees are considering other career options, these findings may offer new insights about a powerful way to engage workers in that age group.

A Message from UWTV's Intern
|
|
Ayesha is one of two interns this summer; she graduated from C of I this May with an International Political Economics degree. She is from Nepal and looks forward to working in the non-profit sector.
"The month of July has been a busy one for the United Way of the Treasure Valley team. With campaign season just around the corner, much effort has been put into the preparation process. As an intern I have received opportune moments of learning and have gained tremendous knowledge in non-profit work. While the work load has been impressive, the teamcontinues to be cheerful and always have a hand available.
Everyday has been a new learning experience; from poverty simulations to compiling data for the new community assessment plan, it seems that United Way has entrenched itself in bringing to life its vision of community engagement and development, and has raised the bar for other non profits around the Treasure Valley.
Spreading the spirit of volunteerism has also been a key part this month's agenda. With a successful DIRT session at the Boys and Girls Club, I have learned how important it is to reach out to our corporate partners and Treasure Valley residents and involve them in the cycle of giving back to the community they live in. It has been a pleasure working with UWTV as they strive towards excellence in the non-profit field, and this month has been crucial to their work. I hope to learn more in the upcoming weeks."
