After-School Snack Program

Boys and Girls Clubs of Ada County, Boys and Girls Club of Nampa, Caldwell YMCA and United Way of Treasure Valley have collaborated to ensure the youth served in Canyon County at these locations will have access to nutritious snacks after school.
Many times, these nutritious snacks are what kids rely on for dinner that evening. Last year alone an average of 143 kids a day relied on the snack in Nampa and 51 kids a day in Caldwell.
This program would not be possible without the generous support from Albertsons/SUPERVALU. Beginning next week, they will launch a point of sale campaign to support the after school collaboration. Through the campaign shoppers will have the opportunity to donate money in support of the program at checkout.
Our thanks to Albertsons/SUPERVALU for making this important program possible!

Mentoring Collaborative
|
|
Transition to Junior High has been identified as a critical milestone in educational success. There is opportunity for growing programs for this age group to ensure that engagement is not lost, and is a greater opportunity for youth to be successful.
After last year's launch of the successful Mentoring Collaborative, the agency partners (Boys & Girls Club of Nampa, Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County, Treasure Valley Family YMCA, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Idaho, and Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council), will kick off this year's collaboration with a leadership camp for 5th and 6th graders hosted the YMCA. The goal of the camp is to make "life-changing results in the lives of young people." The United Way Jr. Service Club members will serve as teen mentors at the camp.
Watch for greatness from this group!

Employee Campaign Coordinators experience life on the edge
|
More than 110 Employee Campaign Coordinators participated in Poverty Simulations as part of United Way's annual campaign training this year. Employee Campaign Coordinators are the hard working volunteers who organize and lead their work place campaigns. The events were held August 16th at College of Idaho, and August 17th at Saint Alphonsus' McCleary Auditorium.
For many Coordinators, the experience created a new level of connection to United Way and the issues faced by families and individuals facing poverty. Several Coordinators soon began initiating plans for poverty simulations at their own workplaces; as a result of this training we have staged poverty simulations at PacificSource Health Plans and J.R. Simplot Company.
Many thanks to event sponsors and hosts: Intermountain Community Bank, Saint Alphonsus, and College of Idaho.
