Hernandez will serve as Sacajawea Community School Coordinator in Caldwell

BOISE, Idaho — Hortensia Hernandez has joined United Way of Treasure Valley as the non-profit organization’s first Community School Coordinator. Hernandez will work in Sacajawea Elementary School as part of the Caldwell School District.

United Way of Treasure Valley, the Caldwell School District and the City of Caldwell, with support from Saint Alphonsus’ parent organization, Trinity Health, are working together to launch Sacajawea Elementary as a community school this fall. Using an existing public school as a resource center, a community school serves as hub to offer an array of opportunities and supports to children, families and neighborhoods. Hernandez will coordinate local resources to serve the students and families of Sacajawea.

Hernandez, originally from Parma, received a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from College of Idaho, with minors in education, physical education and political economy.
