Leaving a Legacy With United Way of Treasure Valley

RetiredLately, I’ve been doing a lot more reflecting than usual. I’m sure it has something to do with my change in employment from full-time to part-time – a transition step on my journey toward retirement.

I’ve been around United Way of Treasure Valley for close to 20 years now and have been a donor for even longer. The work that we are doing and the work that we invest your (and my) dollars into is critical in making the Treasure Valley a better place for everyone to live, especially for ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed). I wish change could happen more quickly and everyone in the Treasure Valley was able to live their best life right now, but that is just not realistic.

It takes time.

There will come a day when I’m no longer here, but I want to ensure this work continues. Why?

First, because I can.

Second, I feel it’s so important for everyone to have the opportunity to succeed in life.

Third, I want to be an example to my kids and grandkids, and maybe to you, that giving back is important.

My wife, Cindy, and I chose to make a legacy gift to United Way of Treasure Valley. We were making an international trip about a year ago and felt it was time to update our will, just in case. It was easy to add an addendum or codicil to our existing will, for no charge.

Now I know that the work that I’ve been passionate about for a long time will continue. Hopefully, I’ll be around for many more years, and plan to continue being a donor even after my employment ends completely and I enter full retirement. Our Legacy gift gives me a feeling of peace and satisfaction.

Have you considered leaving a gift in your will to United Way of Treasure Valley? Is the work that we are doing to help lift people up important to you? Do you want that work to continue for as long as it is needed? Join Cindy, me, and many others by leaving a Legacy gift in your will.

If you do not already have a will, please create one today, free of charge, with our partner FreeWill in only 20-30 minutes.
